LIONS WORLD SIGHT DAY 2023 @ SENGKANG CC

The annual LSSC eye screening service project, “Lions World Sight Day 2023” was successfully conducted on 15 Oct 2023 at Sengkang Community Club. This event was tied in with the LCI World Service Day for the month of October. The Guest of Honour was Dr Lam Pin Min, Grassroots Adviser for Sengkang GRC and special guest, LCI District 309, District Governor Yeo Siew Yam were both present to grace the event.

It was the collective effort of Lions Savesight Centre, Singapore National Eye Centre, Sengkang GRC Grassroots Leaders, Sengkang CC staff and various Lions Clubs of Singapore volunteers. Prior to the event date, the LWSD organizing committee led by Team Leader, Lion James Ko held a few team meetings and site recces to discuss the logistics support and preparations. The eyes screening pre-registration started in the month of September, by early October 300 seniors from Sengkang constituency were pre-registered. Some 302 seniors turned up and had their eyes screened on that day, there were 131 referrals who need to follow up with any hospital eye clinics within 6 months, including 2 urgent referrals for A & E follow up at hospital.

Approximately 40 Lions volunteers from various Lions Clubs of Singapore (including Lions Clubs who make sponsorship donations) and a few volunteers from grassroots leaders/members from Sengkang GRC were on site to assist the volunteer SNEC eye doctors and nurses, in the ushering, registration process, dispensing of reading glasses and gave the seniors each a goodie bag which contained eye-care brochures, near sight eye chart plus few souvenir items, after they had completed their eye screening. There were 155 pairs of reading glasses sponsored by EVF given to those seniors who needed it.
